Purpose/SignificanceWith the further promotion of the pilot work of rural community construction and the implementation of rural revitalization plan, rural community construction has increasingly become a hot field of multidisciplinary joint research, and it is of theoretical and practical significance to sort out and summarize the domestic and foreign literatures in this field.

Method/processLiterature review and comparative study are the two main research methods in this paper. It begins with the explanation of basic concept, origin and significance of rural community construction; then, it summarizes the domestic and foreign research results of rural community construction; finally, it makes a brief evaluation of the research results of rural community construction in China, and puts forward the prospect of further research.

Result/ conclusionAlthough the theoretical exploration of rural community construction have made great achievements in China, the research of rural community construction still has the space to improve from the following aspects, 1) some basic problems having not been clarified; 2) less results has been achieved from micro perspective research; 3) a few research results are based on long-term and comparative study of history; 4) little research attention is paid on rural community construction in minority areas; 5) little research has been done on evaluation index and talent system of rural community construction; 6) research method is relatively monotonous. Promotion of rural community construction can be done in following ways: enrich research content, broaden research vision, improve and optimize research methods and expand research objects.
