Abstract: This paper summarizes the development of vehicle following behavior at home and abroad, and focuses on the main influencing factors of car-following behavior of L0—L5 vehicles. It further clarifies the influence mechanism of various factors on car-following behavior of vehicles, and puts forward reasonable solutions to work out the problem of car-following behavior caused by drivers, vehicle characteristics and vehicle automation levels. Finally, it is proposed that the car-following behavior of L0—L5 vehicles under the influence of driver and vehicle characteristics is considered comprehensively, the coupling car-following behavior between the driving style and automation level of drivers of different levels of L0—L5 vehicles, and the impact of behavior prediction and tracking of L4—L5 vehicles on car-following behavior are the main issues that need to be further studied in the future.
