On Filial Piety and the Concept that "the Underworld Living is the Same as the Earthly" in Portraits of Han Dynasty

  • Portraits of Han dynasty, unique paintings buried in the tomb, are the production of an elaborate funeral in eastern and western Han dynasties. The portrait content and forms meet the needs of the dead and related closely to funeral etiquettes and customs. The care and imagination of the underworld is the invariably important theme in portraits of Han dynasty, with colorful content. The concept of "the underworld living is the same as the earthly" is vividly and profoundly embodied in the portraits.
