The Format of "Fei-dei(非得)+VP" and Related Problems

From the perspective of semantic expression, the format of "Fei-dei(非得)+VP" expresses three types of meanings: "must", "have to" and "the corollary" in modern Chinese. The investigation on it shows that the formats of the three types are different in syntactic production, though they have the same pragmatic function of "positive" and "negative". This paper analyzes the reasons of these differences and divides the adverb "Fei-dei(非得)" into three types.
