The Modern Significance and Deficiencies of Liang Qichao's Interest-ism Aesthetics

  • Liang Qichao's 'interest-ism' aesthetics aims to shape ideal personality. The theory explores the origin of interest from human instinct, believes that abundant interest is inseparate from human emotional interaction in analyzing human interrelationship, and reveals the organic connection and significance between pleasure of life, human affection and poetic soul in the universe from the perspective of relationship between man and himself. Liang Qichao's ways of defining 'interesting' and its basic connotation enlighten us on the relationship between life, literature and art, or other aesthetic issues in modern cultural context, except for some obvious deficiencies.
