The Application of Prototype Theory to Analysis of Australian English

  • The prototype theory is useful in cognitive linguistics. In this paper, prototype theory is applied to analyze the difference between Australian English and British English in pronounciation, grammar and vocabulary. As a regional variety of English, Australian English is a synthetic language of British English, aboriginal language and immigrant language. Study on Australian English is of great importance to improve English teaching and students'cross-cultural communication competence.
