The Distinction between Homonymy and Polysemy

Through the thorough illustration of homonymy and polysemy from the definition and distinctive feature aspects, as well as the cause for this phenomenon, this study tries to use exemplifications to qualitatively analyze the effective approach and criteria for distinguishing these two kinds of word. As a result, it finds out that only with etymology and the semantic relation can it makes a scientific classification of word category.
