On the Expounding Function of Translator's Notes: A Case Study of World Famous Novels (English-Chinese Bilingual Edition) Translated Woo Kuangkien

  • Translator's notes are an important method of translation compensation, with expounding as their most common function. This paper will take Woo Kuangkien's translation series World Famous Novels (English-Chinese Bilingual Edition) as a case study anddiscuss the expounding functions of translator's notes in the texts. The notes will be classified into five main groups, namely, expounding on the proper names, allusions, cultural items, plot and words.
