Abstract
"Thick description" which emphasizes detailed description and interpretation is widely used in anthropology. This paper discusses the four levels of translation study on the basis of The Grand Scribe's Records translated by William H. Nienhauser from the perspective of thick description: the translation itself, the translator's intention, translation strategy and the cultural context and reflection on the study.
