Abstract: This paper argues that only the social need is the basis of translator's multi-dimensional selection from three aspects of text content, translation methods and ideology in translation selection. It does not contradict Professor Hu Gengshen's Eco-translatology that translation is translator-centered multi-dimensional selection and adaption. This paper holds that: 1) only the social need is the decisive factor in translator's multi-dimensional selection; 2) only based on the social need can the multi-dimensional selection and adaption adapt to/ promote the social development and can the translation be accepted.
