Abstract:
Objective to investigate the relationship among materialistic values, social support and compulsive buying tendency of college students.
Methods conducting an investigation among 370 college students with Materialistic Values Scale, SSRS and Compulsive Buying Tendency Scale.
Results 1) materialistic values were positively correlated with compulsive buying tendency (r= 1.003), whereas social support was negatively correlated with compulsive buying tendency (r=-0.167);2) materialistic values and social support had a significant impact on the prediction of compulsive buying tendency; 3) social support had a significant impact on the regulation of relationship between materialistic values and compulsive buying tendency, and for students with high social support, materialistic values had no significant impact on the prediction of compulsive buying tendency, while for the students with low social support, the impact was significant.
Conclusion social support could weaken compulsive buying tendency and compulsive buying was a psychological compensation for lack of social support.
