Abstract: This paper reviews the studies of Cognitive Linguistic Approaches to teaching vocabularies abroad in the last ten years, including semantic extension and sound extension.The former mainly concerns whether raising students' metaphorical awareness can be a great help for memorizing meanings of polysemies, yet the latter is mostly about whether sound repetition can influence the memorization of word forms.Both aspects need to be further studied, particularly the sound extension.As to the former, there exists the problems of transparency and length of words, and of improvement of teaching methods; while for the latter, the research should be broadened to some single words.
