Abstract: This paper reviews the researches on the social cost of monopoly from the angles of theoretical analysis and empirical estimation. In theoretical analysis, it focuses on Harberger triangle theory, X-inefficiency theory and Tullock quadrilateral theory; while in empirical estimation, it lays emphasis on the methods and results of estimation in representative literature.
