Abstract: As an academic journal of written language, history and archaeology, Shuowen Monthly focuses on the history, archaeology and culture of humanities. During the years of its operation, the journal has published a large proportion of research achievements related to Ba-Shu culture, Wu-Yue culture and Northwest culture, which has promoted the academic enthusiasm for the above-mentioned regional culture research, laid the foundation for the further development of China's regional culture research, and exerted a lasting influence on China's regional culture research. The focus of Shuowen Monthly on the study of regional culture in modern China has become its distinctive feature and established its position in the periodical field of the Republic of China. It is undeniable that Shuowen Monthly has many shortcomings due to the limitations of the times. Contemporary academic journals can learn from their forward-looking ideas, precise positioning and inclusive ideas, while try to avoid and abandon its irrationality.
