Abstract:
Chuang Tzu is an important Chinese cultural classic. Its overseas dissemination has important referential significance to external dissemination of Chinese cultural classics. Through the online questionnaire survey of the target language audience, this paper explores the current situation of the overseas communication of the English translation of
Chuang Tzu. The results suggest that there are some problems in the overseas dissemination of English translations of
Chuang Tzu, including unclear responsibilities of dissemination subjects ; the lack of local adaptability in dissemination content; the insufficient dissemination channels; and the overseas publicity of Chinese culture failing to precise positioning. In view of the current situation, dissemination can be improved by development of hierarchically structured dissemination subjects, each team level having well defined responsibilities with the task of adapting promotional and literature media format and content to suit each culture, education level, and age group. These measures, together with an expansion of dissemination channels and use of media appropriate for each audience, should enable each dissemination subject to be effective in reaching a wider audience.
