Abstract:
The Steep Road to Shu, a representative of Li Po’s poems in high Tang dynasty, was translated by many Western scholars in the Anglo-American world. However, the features of natural wildness in original poem were not represented in many English versions, but transformed to some degree. Therefore, this article aims at studying the generalization and weakening of wildness feature in its English versions through investigating the translations of geographic images and animal images in seven English versions by some Western scholars like Arthur Waley and Amy Lowell from the perspectives of comparative literature and ecocriticism and unveiling the different oriental and occidental views on nature behind, so as to explore the cultural connotation and aesthetic features of this poem and provide a new perspective and research paradigm to the oversea study of Li Po's poems.
