Abstract:
This study, based on CI and FI, and the methods of generalized discourse analysis (discourse sign analysis and discourse information analysis) revealed the differences between English profiles of Chinese universities and those of foreign universities in English-speaking countries based on the measures of tokens, word types, Standard Type-Token Ratio(STTR), Average Sentence Length(ASL), Average Word Length(AWL), reading ease, readability, information types and information structure. Then, political, economical and cultural explanations are presented to account for such differences, and finally some suggestions from the perspective of foreign propaganda are concluded for the improvement of English profiles of Chinese universities.
