Abstract: The development of Sichuan's historiography and archaeology has made a tortuous progress since the founding of the People's Republic of China.The evolutionary process of these two disciplines can be viewed as three stages: the first stage is from 1949 to 1976, the second one is from 1977 to 2012, and the third one is the new era since 2013.In the 70 years, Sichuan's historical disciplines have obtained remarkable achievements in the number of degree authorization points, the researching institutes, academic societies, and relevant professional journals.In the meantime, historiography and archaeology of Sichuan have acquired considerable improvements with the contribution of numerous scholars.As to historical research, more than 100 significant books have earned their international reputation. In the realm of archaeology, besides a great many excavation reports and researching works, transnational academic cooperation and broadened scope of studying fields prove to be the features of recent years.
