Abstract:
As a theory to explain the process of reading comprehension, Schema Theory has been recognized by China's educationists and researchers in recent years. Although Schema Theory is believed to be very useful and scientifically sound, some problems in experiments and researches concerned can't be well explained. Thus, Kintch's Construction and Integration Model is referred to and the model offers a new and reasonable explanation to the dilemmas met by Schema Theory. Since the Model is based on the language processing theory and emphasizes the influence of basic language knowledge on reading comprehension, compared with Schema Theory, the Model can better meet the needs of the language learners who have little or no background knowledge or the ones who want to enhance their reading ability even though they have got the knowledge. Undoubtedly, the Construction and Integration Model shows English teachers a new and effective approach to improving language learners'reading ability by calling teachers'attention to help students master the basic knowledge of English language.
