Abstract:
The beauty of linguistic form occupies an important place in aesthetics of poems, since poems express meaning through unique or original forms, and when the form is lost, the meaning is lost. Therefore, the aesthetic function of linguistic forms in poems shall not be neglected. Chinese poems, with Chinese characters as their building materials, have advantages in beauty of form, hence it is natural to lose something in C-E poetry translation. Therefore, the translator shall try every means to reduce the loss through flexible translation, while undertaking creative translation so as to gain something when something else is lost. The paper discusses the beauty of linguistic forms in Chinese poetry and its English translation from the aspects of ancient Chinese poems and new Chinese poems, poems and ci-form poems in ancient Chinese poems, the linguistic beauty of poetry, and the beauty of poem titles, etc.
