An Empirical Study of Dictionary Use Instruction for Non-English Majors

  • 摘要: 本文把词典使用技能教学融入大学英语教学中,通过对中低分组学生进行为期一年的对比教学,并采用问卷调查、词典技能测试、课堂观察和访谈相结合的方法探讨该类教学的有效性。研究证明,词典技能教学对于非英语专业的中低分组学生有效。因此,建议广大英语教师有意识地、系统地把词典技能教学融入课堂教学中,以培养学生使用词典独立解决问题的能力。

     

    Abstract: By ways of one-year empirical contrast teaching, questionnaires, dictionary use tests, observation and interviews, the paper investigates the effectiveness of combining dictionary use instruction with college English teaching for middle and low achievers. The findings confirm the effectiveness of the teaching for middle and low achievers of non-English majors. It is suggested that English teachers should systematically and consciously combine the dictionary use instruction with classroom teaching, and cultivate students' abilities of using dictionaries to solve problems alone.
