Multidimensional Explanation to the Transformation into Birds Instead of Butterflies in "Liu Yin Ji"

  • 摘要: 川剧《柳荫记》被普遍看作是对《梁山伯与祝英台》的改编,但其“化鸟”结局引发了褒贬不一的评论。文章从川剧《柳荫记》的剧本内容、剧本发展、考古发现、田野调查四个维度综合研究了其“化鸟”不“化蝶”的铺排、沿袭、必然和缘由,揭示出川剧《柳荫记》“化鸟”结局具有的独特文化内涵。

     

    Abstract: Sichuan opera "Liu Yin Ji" is universally acknowledged as a transformation of "The Butterfly Lovers" (Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai). But its ending with the couple's transformation into birds instead of butterflies incurs both much-touted and much-clouted remarks. The essay tries to explore the ending from perspectives of plot arrangement, succession of tradition, inevitability and possible origin to reveal the unique cultural connotation conveyed by "Liu Yin Ji".
