Abstract:
The novel
the Besieged City by Qian Zhongshu has been revised for several times, among which the reprinted version in 1980 differs most from the previous ones. The novel revisions objectively reflect the modernization process of Chinese language in the period of 1940s to 1980s. The analysis of revisions further makes clear the connotation and denotation of the Chinese language modernization which includes the following: uniformity of language, colloquialism of style, simplification of character, standardization of shape, clarification of format.
