On the Buddhism Influence on Su Shi's Literary Criticism Seen in His Three Poetic Propositions

Abstract: "Poem's essence being for interest and interest being unusual butreasonable""shaping up according to anything encountered", and "anything being poetic" are the three poetic propositions of Su Shi, from which we can conclude that Su Shi's literary thought is deeply influenced by Buddhism. Many things in Buddhism have exerted far-reaching influence on Su Shi's poetic theory, including the basic concept and the Buddhist epistemology, especially the essence of Zen, ineffability, evaluation standard, and cognitive perspective, and other aspects such as the ugly and strange description in Buddhist works and Buddhist paintings, sculptures, etc. The influence of Buddhism is one of the important reasons for Su Shi's profound and unique poetics.
