历史典籍英译的“深度描写”研究——以倪豪士英译《史记》为例

Translation Research from the Perspective of Thick Description——A Case Study of The Grand Scribe's Records

摘要: “深度描写”是人类学中普遍使用的强调细节描写和阐释的研究方法，而“深度翻译”是“深度描写”在翻译中的直接体现。本文以倪豪士英译《史记》为例，对作为“深度描写”的翻译研究涵盖的四个层次：翻译事件本身、译者的翻译动机、翻译决策和社会文化语境、对本研究的反思进行了探讨，研究发现：“深度描写”的翻译方法对中国历史典籍的外译具有重要的指导意义。

Abstract: "Thick description" which emphasizes detailed description and interpretation is widely used in anthropology. This paper discusses the four levels of translation study on the basis of The Grand Scribe's Records translated by William H. Nienhauser from the perspective of thick description: the translation itself, the translator's intention, translation strategy and the cultural context and reflection on the study.
