Abstract:
Text introductions in college English textbooks are interactive platforms between compilers and learners.This paper probes into the interpersonal meanings realized in text introductions in
New Vogue College Practical English on the basis of Hallidayan Systemic Functional Linguistics.The study shows that interpersonal meanings in text introductions serve for functions the discourses are meant to perform:the informational function, the negotiating function and the persuasive function, which determine compilers' selection of mood type, modality type, modality orientation and modality value.
