Liu Cizhuang's Yuefu Anthology stands out among the criticism of Yuefu poems in the early and mid-Northern Song Dynasty. The book is composed of two themes, including Yuefu Anthology which contains 428 ancient Yuefu poems and falls into 21 categories and
Interpretation of Yuefu Anthology. He advocated "unexpected delight", "preference of meaning to words" and "originality" and set a paradigm for Yuefu poem criticism by the fixed expression"creating such a poem". Both the content and the form of the "Interpretation" symbolizes the maturity Yuefu poem criticism in the early and mid-Northern Song Dynasty.
