Abstract:
Chuanqi, an anthology of short stories, written by Pei Xing (vice-general of Jiannan Xichuan in the Tang Dynasty), is considered the orthodox of legendary stories by later researchers. However, few studies have been done as the book has long been lost to the world.
Chuanqi is so representative in writing style that after the Song Dynasty, the book title became an alternative for the new genre of classical Chinese novel. This essay, mainly based on the 31 piece collection collected by Zhou Lengjia, is to explore the stylistic features of
Chuanqi.
